HAWKER

Boston 1972

I was shooting a series of surreal ads for Levis that went on the back cover of Rolling Stone Magazine. At that time, Rolling Stone was having problems in the Boston Commons area getting people to buy the magazine. There were a lot of 'hawkers' in the commons competing with Rolling Stone. The distributors and sellers of Rolling Stone asked Levis' ad agency for help with the problem. The art director on the Levis account asked me to come up with an image for a poster to help Rolling Stone with the hawker problem. This photograph was produced without retouching.
