Allen Ginsberg is shown here making tea for Julius. Julius was fresh out of a mental institution where he had stared at the wall for 7 years. Julius is catatonic and is the brother of Peter Orlovsky. The Beats used to wonder what kept his attention looking at the wall for so long. I observed Julius from time to time and saw how well he was treated by the Beats. He was never teased, talked down to or abused, he was loved. Allen and Peter took Julius everywhere, even when we were hanging with Dylan. I never could photograph Julius directly because I felt I would be exploiting him.
